The West Bengal government will set up a Silk Park in Malda district, Small Scale Industry and Textile Commissioner Prasanta Bhattacharyay said today.
The Silk Park would be set up at Madhu Ghat, about 10 km from here, on an 18 acre land belonging to the sericulture department.
The Planning Commission has already sanctioned Rs 39 crore for this purpose, he said.
A filature unit where silk spinning had been done was there on the land but now it is closed.

Junagadh Agriculture University (JAU) has estimated 33 per cent lower cotton production for Gujarat as compared to last year.
A recent agricultural economic study report of JAU noted that in spite of lower production, prices of cotton is expected to remain stable due to large stockpiles in China and at international level.

Apparel exports remained flat at $907 million in October 2012 compared to the same period last fiscal due to sluggish demand in the European and the US markets.
In October last year, garments exports stood at $914 million, according to the data provided by the Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC).

The income from the garment industry increased by around 50 percent, Economic Development Deputy Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena said.
